Epwoore Park’s fast start did much to shape the afternoon: goals in the ninth and 13th minutes put the hosts in control before the match had properly settled. Birch Bil United did respond after the break, and their shot accuracy makes the comeback attempt more than a ceremonial footnote. But with the visitors’ equal tally of tackles and dribbles unable to match Epwoore Park’s larger supply of attempts, the hosts kept enough of the initiative to answer with a third goal.

The 3-1 score stands as a deserved win for Epwoore Park, though not one that exhausts the possibilities suggested by the chance figures. Birch Bil United had enough on-target efforts to threaten more, while Epwoore Park’s 4.08 xG hints at opportunities left unfinished. The hosts took the points by starting sharply and restoring their margin when the visitors had made the game interesting; football’s arithmetic, as usual, has left a little room for argument.
