Wick Wor 6 - 0 Mersfor Newsbort

The chance-quality estimate gives Wick Wor 3.05 xG against six actual goals, an over-performance of 2.95. That is a substantial return beyond the quality of the chances, and points to finishing of unusual efficiency rather than a match in which every goal was inevitable. Mersfor Newsbort recorded 0.86 xG without scoring, so their four shots and ten corners did not translate into enough danger to alter the result. The visitors had 57% possession, but Wick Wor made their fewer attacks count with a clinical edge that the numbers, in their measured way, can only partly explain.

The first goal arrived on 27 minutes, and the next three followed before the break, leaving Mersfor Newsbort with a steep task after half-time. Xinping Boon was central to the scoring pattern, netting twice and assisting twice, while Heber Correa also scored twice. Andrew Jackson and Mike Parker added goals, and the visitors’ greater share of the ball never became a route back into the contest. Wick Wor also made 13 tackles to the visitors’ seven, evidence of a side willing to do the less decorative work as well as the finishing.

Six goals is a wide margin, and the match’s central contrast was plain: Mersfor Newsbort collected possession and corners, while Wick Wor collected goals. The visitors were not without activity, but their 0.86 xG and four shots left too little substance behind those attacking totals. For Wick Wor, the 6-0 result was built on a burst of first-half scoring, sustained threat after the break and finishing that substantially outstripped the estimated chances. The numbers may keep their reservations; the scoreline has already filed its report.
