Bortforne United 10 - 1 Bury Lyth Town

The hosts had four goals by the 22nd minute, with Amiran Miqeladze scoring three of them and Milan Antić adding another. Antić made it 5-0 before Israel Morales replied for Bury Lyth Town in the 37th minute, assisted by Weijie Hong. Further goals before the break took Bortforne United to seven, and Robert Jimenez completed a hat-trick after half-time. The late ninth-minute-of-the-final-hour calm was not much disturbed: Bortforne United scored again in the 90th minute.

The xG figures put the scale of the result in sharper relief. Bortforne United scored ten from 3.83 expected goals, a remarkable over-performance: their 15 shots were all on target, and the finishing turned a strong supply of chances into a very large total. Bury Lyth Town scored once from 1.04 xG, close to the chance-quality estimate, despite having 55% possession and four shots, all on target. The contrast points less to territorial control than to what happened when each side got a shot away: the visitors’ share of the ball brought little volume, while the hosts made their chances count at an extraordinary rate.

The result was settled early, but Bortforne United kept adding to it, with Miqeladze leading the scoring and Jimenez providing the second-half punctuation. Antić contributed two goals and an assist, and also received a yellow card. Bury Lyth Town found a response through Morales, but the score had already become a steep hill and kept rising. The teams finished level on yellow cards, three apiece; that is one category in which the afternoon maintained a respectable balance.
