The scoreline had a pleasing lack of interest in staying put. Milmoughwood struck first, Newsby restored parity, and the hosts went ahead after the break; when the visitors levelled again, the match still had one more answer in it. Philippe Robert contributed to all three Newsby goals, scoring the second and assisting the first and third. His involvement was the thread running through a game otherwise prone to changing its mind.

The discipline figures also tell part of the story: Milmoughwood committed 17 fouls to Newsby’s five and collected all three yellow cards, while the hosts kept their card column empty. Yet Milmoughwood remained in the contest until the 79th minute, helped by accurate finishing and a steady supply of corners. In the end, Newsby’s greater volume of shots and stronger chance total proved more durable than the visitors’ efficiency. The 3-2 result leaves the hosts with the points; the late winner ensured the arithmetic did not need another revision.
