Expected Goals (xG) Analysis: The Gazzetta chance-quality estimate gave Blary 3.6 xG and Gill United 0.26. Seven goals from 3.6 xG means Blary substantially outperformed the chances’ estimated value, finishing with a ruthlessness that made an already one-sided contest look even more emphatic. The hosts put 13 of 16 shots on target, giving their finishing plenty of opportunities to make the difference. Gill United had one shot, and it was on target, but the 0.26 xG figure reflects how little threat that attempt represented. The visitors had 53% possession and five corners, yet those measures produced no goal and very little attacking volume. Blary had less of the ball, but turned its chances into seven goals; possession, in this case, had the less interesting job.
The decisive passage came before half-time: Blary scored five times between the 21st and 44th minutes, with Garofalo and Varela involved in the construction and Gonçalves adding the first of his three goals. Telmo Almeida also found the net just before the interval, assisted by Mario Valentić. The sequence left Gill United with a large deficit and little attacking evidence from which to build a response. Blary added two more after the break, both finished by Gonçalves and assisted by Garofalo, confirming that the first-half collapse had not been a temporary statistical disturbance.
The four yellow cards to Blary and one to Gill United added a little friction to a match otherwise defined by the hosts’ finishing. The visitors did have more possession, corners, dribbles and tackles, but Blary’s 16 shots to one and 13 efforts on target to one tell the more useful story of where the game was decided. A 7-0 final score is an emphatic result by any ordinary measure; here, the gap between the teams’ attacking output made it difficult to mistake the direction of the afternoon. Blary took the points with seven goals, while Gill United left without one.
