Expected Goals (xG) Analysis: Aspall Forest scored three goals from 1.84 xG, a substantial return above the chance-quality estimate. That finishing kept the hosts in front twice and made their attacking output more productive than the underlying chances alone would predict. Crombe United scored five from 3.00 xG, also outperforming the estimate, though less dramatically; the visitors’ 13 shots and 11 on target help explain how they kept applying pressure. The 49-51 possession split suggests neither side monopolised the ball, but the difference in tackles—12 for Crombe United against four for Aspall Forest—points to a more forceful defensive effort from the side that ultimately took control. The visitors’ late goals widened the margin after a match that had repeatedly offered Aspall Forest a route back into the contest.

The scoreline places Crombe United’s five-goal haul at the centre of the story, but Aspall Forest were not short of moments: they scored three times, led twice, and exceeded their xG by more than a goal. The decisive difference was how the visitors sustained their threat after conceding, with eleven shots on target and three goals in the final 20 minutes. Aspall Forest made its chances count; Crombe United made more of them, and kept doing so until the last minute.
