Difficult campaign - A season to learn from and improve

The 11th season for Suthgates in the 5th tier of the league was undoubtedly challenging. Finishing in 12th place with just a single point from 22 matches, the team faced significant hurdles on the pitch. The season's fun fact highlights a major issue: a goal difference of -96, reflecting persistent defensive struggles that hampered their ability to compete effectively. Despite the setbacks, the squad showed resilience and a willingness to contribute in multiple ways, even if the results did not reflect their efforts.

This campaign served as a crucial learning experience for Suthgates, emphasizing the need for defensive organization and consistency. With a core group of players contributing across the board, the team has a foundation to build upon for future seasons. The season's difficulties underscore the importance of strategic improvements and squad development moving forward.

• No wins recorded this season, but the team maintained a fighting spirit.
• Managed 1 draw, showing some resilience in tough matches.
• Total goals scored: 6, demonstrating offensive efforts despite overall struggles.
• Defensive record: 102 goals conceded, highlighting areas for defensive reinforcement.
• A dedicated group of players who contributed in multiple ways, setting the stage for future growth.

While individual statistics may not tell the full story this season, several players stood out as team players contributing in multiple ways:

• Lassina Dao: Demonstrated versatility and team spirit, contributing in various roles.
• Benjamin Cross: A committed presence on the pitch, offering support across different areas.
• Neil Jackson: Showed resilience and dedication, despite limited statistical output.
• Willi Schneider: Contributed to team efforts, embodying the collective spirit.
• Giuseppe Conte: A consistent team player, working tirelessly throughout the campaign.

The most glaring issue this season was the defensive frailty, as evidenced by the goal difference and goals conceded. Improving defensive organization, communication, and discipline will be vital. Additionally, converting scoring opportunities and creating more offensive threats could help turn draws into wins and boost morale.

Suthgates' 2023/24 season was marked by significant challenges, primarily on the defensive front. The team showed commendable effort and contribution from its players, but results highlight the urgent need for tactical adjustments and defensive solidity. With a focus on strengthening the backline and building confidence, the club can aim for a more competitive and balanced campaign in the seasons ahead.
